Pieces of Reconciliation

As a writer, I am enthralled by words; what they mean, the purpose they serve, how to use them correctly.  Oftentimes I come across a word that seems important; but I am not familiar with it.

Reconciliation is that word for me right now.   We die to our old selves, becoming new in Christ.

There is no greater joy than to be forgiven, to forgive and know that forgiveness is necessary each day — to live in harmony; oftentimes — with ourselves.

2 Corinthians 5:18 All these new things are from God who brought us back to himself through what Christ Jesus did. And God has given us the privilege of urging everyone to come into his favor and be reconciled to him.

Journey to Redemption

Easter Sunday has arrived in many parts of the world; where I live, it’s tomorrow.  The past few days have been incredibly moving for me.  Having grown up in a rather sedate Lutheran church, there were no “stations of the cross,” Good Friday services or much reflection on the sanctity of Holy Week.  We recognized the birth of Jesus, His Resurrection on the cross, the day He rose from the dead, and the Ascension.

Did these events take place so that we could affirm our faith?  The disciples were given the task of sharing Jesus’ word with the entire world; it may have been “mere Christianity” without the the death & resurrection of Jesus.

What does Holy Week, the heartache of death, the miracle of Resurrection, the Ascension into heaven to sit with God the Father Almighty, mean to you?  Mean FOR us?

I encourage you to find this video on YouTube.  The words are incredible powerful.

Wonderful, Merciful Savior

By: Selah

Wonderful, merciful Savior
Precious Redeemer and Friend
Who would have thought that a Lamb
Could rescue the souls of men
Oh you rescue the souls of men

Counselor, Comforter, Keeper
Spirit we long to embrace
You offer hope when our hearts have
Hopelessly lost the way
Oh, we hopelessly lost the way

You are the One that we praise
You are the One we adore
You give the healing and grace
Our hearts always hunger for
Oh, our hearts always hunger for

Almighty, infinite Father
Faithfully loving Your own
Here in our weakness You find us
Falling before Your throne
Oh, we’re falling before Your throne

Scripture Pieces

Matthew 5:6-10 spoke to me in my morning bible study.  It is half of the Beatitudes (the beginning focus on humility, mourners and the meek and lowly).  It continues on to “those who are happy.”

https://i1.wp.com/mrsect.global2.vic.edu.au/files/2014/03/Screen-Shot-2014-03-19-at-7.01.58-am-1j61j2a.png

The entire book of Matthew seems to be a guide — how to live a life that is pleasing to God, and how to be a light in dark places for others to find Christ.  We are often the only positive example of Christianity a non-believer might see.

I, myself have overreacted in various life situations, I have hurt others with my words and I have been hurt by the words and actions of others.  We are human, we are not perfect and imagining a life that is; sets us up for failure.  I see each day as a new start, a new beginning, a new opportunity to change the heart of another.  We are not put on this earth to merely live and exist, we are ultimately here to share the kingdom of God with all people, to live righteously (not perfect) and to love God with our heart and soul.

Matthew 22:37 Jesus replied, “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, and mind.’

Romans 1:6-7 And you, dear friends in Rome, are among those he dearly loves; you, too, are invited by Jesus Christ to be God’s very own—yes, his holy people. May all God’s mercies and peace be yours from God our Father and from Jesus Christ our Lord.

Pieces of Conversation

How we communicate and to whom is not easily mastered at any age.  As a young child, we tend to point and garble our words.  School is where we learn our language, how to express feelings, the incredible hardship of learning where an apostrophe goes and how to spell it.  Why one word can have so many meanings, etc.  Eventually we master language.

But to whom – isn’t always easy either.  We speak differently to our family and loved ones, than we do, say – our  employer, or waitstaff.  We tend to speak down to our children and pets, and sing-song like when happy or joyful.

Put these two concepts together — and there the trouble begins.  We may have a particular “tone of voice” which is impossible to translate on text.  Our attitude may be front and center, instead of what we are trying to accomplish (what is on our mind).

1 Corinthians 14:7  Even musical instruments—the flute, for instance, or the harp—are examples of the need for speaking in plain, simple English rather than in unknown languages. For no one will recognize the tune the flute is playing unless each note is sounded clearly.
Colossians 4:6 Let your conversation be gracious as well as sensible, for then you will have the right answer for everyone.
Not only speak kindly to others, but YOURSELF.  We can become our own worst enemy with negative self talk (and thinking).
And always spend time in prayer, this is the ultimate conversation!

Pieces of Christmas

I heard this lovely song titled “2000 Decembers Ago,” by Joy Williams – today on the radio, it is a piece of wonder and joy.  May you be inspired by the words:

2000 Decembers Ago
Did it feel like a night any different
Then at least a million before
Was there any rare expectation
Like there was some kind of somethin’ in store
Did the sky have to hold back the thunder
Did the moon find new reasons to glow
Could the children somehow sense the wonder
2000 Decembers Ago
Were the sheep as amazed as the shepherds
At the new star that lite up the sky
Did the willow trees whisper excitement
To the rivers and streams passing by
Did the joy ricochet off the mountains
‘Til it filled up the valleys below
Did all the world sense love abounding
2000 Decembers Ago
Was anyone able to look at the stable
And not see a child but a King

I wish I could hear back over the years
As heaven & nature sing, heaven and nature sing.
Did the walls of the barn start to tremble
With a glory they could not contain
Did anyone wake with the feeling
Of peace that they could not explain
Oh the love must have been overwhelming
As it warmed everyone in it’s flow
For all of the earth is still telling
Of 2000 Decembers ago
Was anyone able to look at the stable
And not see a child but a king
I wish I could hear back over the years
As heaven and nature sing, heaven and nature sing
Oh the love must have been overwhelming
2000 Decembers Ago

Pieces of Quiet

If you are feeling rundown, overworked, tired, or feeling a lack of faith — it may be time to decompress, recharge your batteries, find some quiet.

2 Chronicles 20:30  So the realm of Jehoshaphat was quiet: for his God gave him rest round about.
Isaiah 32:17  And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.
Come unto me, all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

Pieces of Harmony

The world is a place filled with violence, unrest, sorrow and anger.  It is also a place filled with beauty, love and peace.  How can we ever find a healthy, spiritual balance?

HARMONY.

c :  internal calm :  tranquility

Psalm 32:7 You are a hiding place for me; You, Lord, preserve me from trouble, You surround me with songs and shouts of deliverance.

Acts 20:32 And now [brethren], I commit you to God [I deposit you in His charge, entrusting you to His protection and care]. And I commend you to the Word of His grace [to the commands and counsels and promises of His unmerited favor]. It is able to build you up and to give you [your rightful] inheritance among all God’s set-apart ones (those consecrated, purified, and transformed of soul).

A piece of humility

Humble pie some call it.  I’d venture to say we could all use a slice every now and then.

……humility, and self-control. There is no law against such things as these.
You are the people of God; he loved you and chose you for his own. So then, you must clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience.
Are there any of you who are wise and understanding? You are to prove it by your good life, by your good deeds performed with humility and wisdom.

Anxious Pieces

When life shifts, and it will; our perceptions, opinions and thoughts do as well.  Negative or unkind words are hasty and later, regretted.  During times of anguish; pray.  And with your prayers of need, give thanks.

1 Thessalonians 5:18  Whatever happens, keep thanking God because of Jesus Christ. This is what God wants you to do.

1 Chronicles 23:30 Every morning and evening, the Levites are to give thanks to the Lord and sing praises to him.
2 Corinthians 1:11  Please help us by praying for us. Then many people will give thanks for the blessings we receive in answer to all these prayers.

Pieces of Attitude

An attitude to chase after what is good and right, is an expectation that God has for us.  I offer all that I have, up to you, Father – please teach me.

All of us who are spiritually mature should have this same attitude. But if some of you have a different attitude, God will make this clear to you.
Tell them not to speak evil of anyone, but to be peaceful and friendly, and always to show a gentle attitude toward everyone.
[ Suffering for Doing Right ] To conclude: you must all have the same attitude and the same feelings; love one another, and be kind and humble with one another.
