Pieces of Truth

When we were little kids, we often had to “fess up” for something we said or did that wasn’t right or nice.  Our parents usually instigated the apology or retribution.

Our Heavenly Father does this with His grown up kids too.  He pushes on our conscience until we know what has to be done.  We ultimately need to confess and/or apologize to another grown up for the wrong we committed.  Perhaps we were very judgemental, spewing our opinions on another, or we did or didn’t do something that really hurt that person.

Not very Christian.  And not very human.

I’ve heard countless stories about little kids who stole a candy bar and ended back at the store with tears in their eyes and a big apology to “never steal again.”

It’s not quite that effective when we are adults and have harmed someone with words or actions.  Because we are sinners, we will likely do again; and again.  Not to the same person hopefully, but we will hurt another person whom we love and after awhile it creates a cycle of shame.

But God doesn’t intend to shame us, or use the shame to straighten us out.  He loves us.  No.  Matter.  What.  We.  Do.

But He wants us to learn.

How do we learn?  By apologizing first.  Praying forgiveness.  Learning not to continue the sin.  We often bang our heads against the wall for years.  Why can’t we stop hurting people?  Why do we have to be so self righteous?  Why can’t we see the sin?  Why can’t we learn from it?

Because we are attempting to heal a hurt with a human solution.

We need God’s solution.  It’s called TRUTH. 

Webster defines truth as:

a (1) : the body of real things, events, and facts : actuality
(2) : the state of being the case : fact
(3) often capitalized : a transcendent fundamental or spiritual reality
b : a judgment, proposition, or idea that is true or accepted as true

We know what is true in our own lives.  We know even truer when God is the center.

Waiting Pieces

When we wait upon God, we can wait our entire lives, or weeks turn into months, as with Joseph, he waited 13 years without hearing from God!!  But Joseph never ceased to wait upon the Lord, to keep the faith, to keep praying and believing.  Would we be so patient?

We will never know why life happens a certain way, but you can be sure – your heavenly Father has His hands all over it.  He is with you during your darkest days, pain, anguish, heartache.

The Lord’s Prayer is continually my go-to when I’m suffering; primarily because it’s the only one I can completely remember (thank you Sunday school!), because it hits all the points when we feel lonely, disappointed, hurt, frustrated.

The lessons have been hard for me; many include countless questions about “why” and the infamous:  “when.”  When Lord, when will my pain let up?  Why do I continue to have pain?  I believe that God dislikes this kind of questioning; he is omnipresent after all, He is the ONE.  He is the way, the truth and the life.  We live for him,  not the other way around.  God isn’t a wishing machine.  We put a quarter in, make a wish and *bam*, it’s been taken care of.  Sometimes positively; it seems to work that way, but our faith is greatly tested when we are in a valley for many weeks, months or years.  Perhaps the years of waiting are a test — does our faith crumble and we shake our fists at God because we STILL HAVE THE PAIN?  Or do we endure and bear the pain, standing firm on our foundation of faith?

I pray the latter for me, and for you.

Keeping the faith is not a darling little quote, it’s real.  It’s how we get through the trials in our life.

To this end; God is faithful to us; it’s literally a two-way street.  As we heal from the difficult situation, hurt and pain, this becomes part of our testimony and our stronghold in  faith.  “As for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.”  Joshua 24:15

“‘Good work,’ his master said. ‘You are a good and faithful servant. You have been faithful over this small amount, so now I will give you much more.’

“If I can?” Jesus asked. “Anything is possible if you have faith.”

So now, since we have been made right in God’s sight by faith in his promises, we can have real peace with him because of what Jesus Christ our Lord has done for us.
2 Timothy 2:13
Even when we are too weak to have any faith left, he remains faithful to us and will help us, for he cannot disown us who are part of himself, and he will always carry out his promises to us.

Broken Pieces

What does it mean to be “broken by God?”  This is a new phrase to me, but maybe not to you?  Or maybe it’s been on your heart, as well?

Pastor Dan White:God is always at work in our lives to bring us and to keep us in a love relationship with Him. He does this without violating the free will He has placed in us. Yet, He creates adversity and difficulty to make us realize how weak and frail we are. He creates these difficulties because He loves us. Let us never forget that. Just as a loving parent takes away things and people who are bad influences from their children, so God takes away people and things from us. He breaks us into pieces. He breaks us because He loves us.

I have suffered some harsh lessons the past few months, the truth belonging to other people has been given to me, like the most unwanted gift.  I’ve responded poorly.  I haven’t spent time in prayer or meditation, I haven’t consulted God and asked for help; other than some emotional whining, I’ve not given God the opportunity to teach me this lesson.  I’ve attempted to fix it myself.  THREE times!!

I am slow to learn.  Very.  Slow.

Psalm 51:17 It is a broken spirit you want—remorse and penitence. A broken and a contrite heart, O God, you will not ignore.

2 Corinthians 4:8 We are pressed on every side by troubles, but not crushed and broken. We are perplexed because we don’t know why things happen as they do, but we don’t give up and quit.
