Complicated Pieces

Do you have someone in your life; with whom it feels very complicated?  Perhaps a son-in-law, manager, neighbor?  It’s hard isn’t it, to be mindful of gentleness when around these people?  I like to think that it’s a reflection on our own self, how we treat this person.  If we are begrudging, then that is a character flaw, it is also NOT the way Jesus expects us to live.

Turning the other cheek or being extra nice (fake) is an ineffective path to choose, because Jesus wants us to be like Him.  Compassionate, forgiving, peaceful and kind.  It’s a test of our faith isn’t it, to love someone that is similar to a sour lemon!

Ephesians 4:32 [And] be kind to one another, compassionate, forgiving one another as God has forgiven you in Christ.

Leviticus 19:18
Take no revenge and cherish no grudge against your own people. You shall love your neighbor as yourself. I am the Lord.

Pieces of Contentment

Are we ever really content?  Do we go from one thing to the next?  Is our calendar perpetually filled? Do we believe that tomorrow will be better instead of focusing on what is good today?

Psalm 39:5-6  My life is no longer than my hand! My whole lifetime is but a moment to you. Proud man! Frail as breath! A shadow! And all his busy rushing ends in nothing. He heaps up riches for someone else to spend.
Psalm 17:15 But as for me, my contentment is not in wealth but in seeing you and knowing all is well between us. And when I awake in heaven, I will be fully satisfied, for I will see you face-to-face.

Pieces of Childhood

If you grew up in a family that attended church every Sunday, you will recall in your childhood, having to memorize bible verses.  Granted, they start you out with very short sentences when you are small, but by the time junior high rolls around, you are memorizing paragraphs plus having to remember all the verses you’ve already memorized.

Now at age 51, I realize that my memory is pretty much shot and were it not for the scraps of paper I keep, I wouldn’t know any bible verses!

Zechariah 1:5-6  Your fathers and their prophets are now long dead, but remember the lesson they learned, that God’s Word endures!
Hebrews 5:14 You will never be able to eat solid spiritual food and understand the deeper things of God’s Word until you become better Christians and learn right from wrong by practicing doing right.
We can adhere to God’s word without having to memorize scripture, but it sure comes in handy in times of need.

Promised Pieces

For me, in a blue moon, I receive a promise from God.  It oftentimes comes in the form of a special bible verse or a comment someone makes that encourages me.  These are “promised pieces” because they remind us that God sends signals or ‘signs’ as we need them.

"please god, give me a sign!". okay.png.. That's no god. That's a preacher man.

Romans 15:19  I have won them by my message and by the good way I have lived before them and by the miracles done through me as signs from God—all by the Holy Spirit’s power.
Hebrews 2:4  God always has shown us that these messages are true by signs and wonders and various miracles and by giving certain special abilities from the Holy Spirit to those who believe; yes, God has assigned such gifts to each of us.

Pieces of Self Care

We are complicated beings.  If you have faith in God, you have one less stressor than most, and it’s a great comfort when in pain; emotional or physical.

However, it’s important we know when to care for ourselves, by letting others know — hey we need a break, or a nap, or I just require an hour to read.

Other human beings generally can’t read our minds, so if we don’t ask for what we need, they simply will not know.

Be kind to yourself.  Do some deep breathing, stretch, nap, read a book, decompress.

James 2:8 Yes indeed, it is good when you truly obey our Lord’s command, “You must love and help your neighbors just as much as you love and take care of yourself.”
